Company officials of tesa tape, inc., an affiliate of tesa SE, a global leader in the manufacture and supply of pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes, are pleased to announce a “new-and-improved” family of products for the corrugated board industry. These new products – “tesa® Easy Open Tear Tapes” – join the company’s line of value-added products for manufacturers and converters of corrugated packages.


Cutting-Edge Technology

The all-new tesa® Easy Open Tear Tapes are designed as embedded opening tools for small to mid-sized corrugated packages. These sturdy tapes are applied to the interior side of the package either during the board production process or at an off-line station. Once applied, the parcel is now packaged with a self-contained, clean “opening” tear strip, eliminating the need for additional opening tools such as knives, scissors, and box cutters. The new-and-improved line of tesa® Easy Open Tear Tapes is as follows:

tesa® 53488 - Performance Tear Tape – 3.4 mil thickness
tesa® 53490 - High-Performance Tear Tape – 4.3 mil thickness
tesa® 53494 - Superior Tear Tape – 5.2 mil thickness

Enhancements to this product line include: 1) improved adhesive systems that provide better adhesion to all types of corrugated board, and 2) improved backing materials that eliminate tape shrinkage and lifting. The tesa® Easy Open Tear Tapes can add even more value to a corrugated packager when they are coupled with one of tesa’s custom in-line dispensing systems, which can house long-length rolls (spools) of tesa® tear
tapes, and become part of the automated production process.

From Shipping Box to Designer Display

As the concept of “shelf / retail ready packaging” has become more prevalent, so have tesa solutions. Utilizing a new technique referred to as “liner slitting”, whereby the board liner is slightly cut along a desired path, tesa® Easy Open Tear Tapes can now turn functional shipping boxes into decorative shelf-ready displays without repacking or the use of cutting tools. Liner slitting devices are available with high-speed in-line tape applicators for the corrugated production line to ensure very accurate tape positioning while providing great efficiencies.

These new tesa® Easy Open Tear Tapes, along with automated dispensing equipment and liner slitting capabilities, join the company’s extensive offering for corrugators which includes self-contained closing tapes, combined closing and opening systems, reinforcement tapes, and splicing tapes.
